Alexandra Paal (she/her) is a dancer and choreographer interested in creating immersive spaces to invite the audience to coexist with dance. Her work merges soundscapes, intense lightdesign and recurring movement loops to create an immersive experience that blurs the boundaries of installation, meditation and celebration. “In my work, I aim to create spaces that invite the audience to arrive, to be immersed and moved by an intense sensory world of color and sound.” Trained at the London Contemporary Dance School (BA 2019), Alexandra initially worked as a performer. Since 2021, her focus has increasingly shifted toward her own artistic practice. Through choreographic works, installations, and video, she explores the relationship between body, materiality, and space. International residencies such as the Tipperary Dance Residency (Ireland), the ATLAS program at ImPulsTanz (Vienna), and Open Space by Tanztendenz München e.V. have supported the development of her artistic voice. In addition to her interest in spaces, costume plays a central role in her practice: as a creative tool and sensory medium, it is essential to the development of her pieces. Her fascination with fabrics, textures, and colors is reflected in projects such as Skirts in Fur, unwinding (2024) by Anima Henn, for which she designed and made the costumes. Her own choreography from one skin to another (2024), initially realized as a film in collaboration with London-based costume designer and dancer Alice Ortona Coles, was performed on stage in both Munich and Ireland. The costumes for this project were co-designed and handmade specifically for the work.
